The Australian Scalextric Club was formed in 1992 by a small group of like minded people in Sydney, New South Wales.
This core group of people that gathered together as strangers on that day did not realise the consequences of their actions into creating a club that now reaches a world audience with its web site and monthly hard copy 36 page journal.
The club's motto, 'In the spirit of friendly competition and mutual co-operation', was developed early in the club's history.
In Sydney and regional areas across Australia, the Club has become successful in putting people in touch with others, enabling them to meet regularly to buy, race, swap and repair these 1:32 scale racing models in their homes, garages, lofts and basements or wherever they can build a temporary or permanent circuit.
With the wide variety of slot cars now avaialble, Race meetings can take various forms depending on the host or group's interest. Race formats may include, Road or Rally, Touring, Leman's Enduro style or even Trucks and Motorcycles.
The dillema is in deciding, especially today with not only so many new slot car releases but the large selection of slot cars available from the 'golden age' of racing through the 1960's and 70's.
Many of the tracks are fully landscaped and can truly be called a miniature model racing circuits.
The beauty of the club is that you do not have to own a track to be a member, even if you do not own particular cars that are being raced, a 'loaner' car is usually provided.
The ASRCC keeps all members informed of new releases, tuning and repair tips as well as provides a classified section for sale and wanted in its monthly 36 page journal, Club Lines.
One of the three major club events of the year is Australia's biggest and best 1/32nd scale slot car swapmeet held on the first Sunday in March each year.
Having been brought back to the annual calendar in 2012 with 15 tables in a small scout hall it has grown to being an Australian-wide known event at the Hornsby Memorial Hall with 40 tables and 2,000 slot cars to buy or swap.
It is also a very social event and organised to welcome Club members to the new year with picking up their membership card and a chance to buy cars in person from Club Business Members.
See "Events" on the toolbar and then "Swapmeet" for more.
The second major event of the year is the annual club auction.
The auction is held in Sydney and lists a huge number of new, second-hand and obsolete cars, track and equipment.
It provides members with an opportunity to pick up a bargain as well as providing an ideal time to meet socially and catch up with members whose names often appear in the journal as contributors.
The third major event and highlight of the year is the A.S.R.C.C. Grand Prix Race Meet.
This prized competitive event sees members from all over Australia attend in the hope of taking home a trophy.
Interesting items during the year can include a special race class or series at race meets and also in the last 18 months more availability of "host classes" that involve members racing cars provided rather than bring your own.
Host cars are well tuned and setup to enable all members to have a good test of their skills and experience something different.
Whilst the Club was Sydney focused, one Committee member has relocated to Melbourne which provides the opportunity to increase Club activities south of the border and better engage with Members in Melbourne and Victoria.
The Club caters for all ages, family memberships are available and members attending race meetings are as young as teenagers (if under 18 in the company of their guardian) and rise in age to members in their 70's.
By joining one thing is assured, you will have fun.
